Women’s Specialist Case Worker
15 hours p/w £28-30,000 (pro rata)

This is an opportunity to provide intensive, trauma-informed, gender-sensitive
casework support to women impacted by their own or someone else’s gambling, who
are experiencing complex and intersecting challenges including mental health
difficulties, debt, homelessness, relationship breakdown, neurodiversity, coercive
control, isolation and safeguarding risks.

Domestic Abuse & Gambling Harms
thrivin’ together are delighted to partner with Money Advice Plus, RISE UK and Breakeven on a project evaluating current support for those experiencing gambling-related domestic and economic abuse. The project funded by GREO includes a lived experience panel to input on service and professional training development. Interested women who have lived experience are invited to contact RISE for further information.

Our recent programme started at the end of February with a mix of women in recovery and affected others. Participants are already feeding back changes they are making to challenge beliefs and behaviours relating to money including taking the step to discuss debt with loved ones and agencies, doing a budget and making small changes as part of a larger, manageable goal.

University of East London are conducting a review of published works (academic and some non-academic) that has looked at connections between menstrual changes (associated with menstrual cycles, pregnancy/post-partum and menopause) and gambling in women.

Parenting when a partner gambles study
Taking part in the study involves participants being interviewed for 60-90 minutes about their experiences. It can be a really great way for participants to have a therapeutic experience of talking to a trained mental health professional about their experiences and to also feel that they are contributing to research that can help to inform how NHS gambling services are provided to significant others in the future. There is also a £10 Amazon voucher for taking part.

Women and Gambling Report
In 2023 we facilitated several focus groups with women in gambling recovery and affected others to discuss topics including health, relationships, stigma and finances. Thanks to a grant from ROSA we have turned this into a report promoting the voices of women and their experiences. We held a webinar to launch this community report on 7 November 2024.
